Northern League Round 6 - Results

This week-end United played at home against Rangers.

Under 18's are at the top of the ladder and expected to comfort this place by a win against a strong Ranger team. Rangers scored the first but Sam Wagner scored for United after a nice left foot shot of the box. Some minutes later the younger Wagner brother Daniel scored a volley on the back post. United won 2-1 and get now 6 more points than Rangers and Ulverstone. Keeper Simon Lucas broke his finger and we hope he will come back soon. Well done lads.

The Reserve had a very close game too. Rangers opened the score by a big hit from 25 meters. Daniel Phillips scored for United but Rangers get the win in the last minutes.

The Senior team played against back-to-back Northern League champion in a tight game also. The game started very bad for us when Rangers scored in the first 2 minutes. United started to play well on the ground and both team had occasion to score. Keeper Pat Farrell saved numerous of balls and made an impressive game. Just before half time united efforts were rewarded when Agele Luate lob Ranger keeper. Half time, 1-1.
The team started the second half as they finish the first with lots of passing and D'Zeffrey Bart scored a second goal for United. Rangers were still very dangerous, Pat Farrell continued to sicken Rangers strikers while Alex Rubel saved a ball on the line. D'Zeffrey Bart showed his slide tackles skills in a one Vs one action in the box. Unfortunately Rangers kept pushing and get two penalty in ten minutes to led 3-2 with 10 minutes to go.United pushed hard to get the draw but ended the game with an honorific defeat against a solid Rangers team.

Extract from Sunday Examiner by Mark Baker :
"Twin penalties finally push Rangers past Launceston side United unable to hang on.

Rangers went ahead in the second minute when M ark Ambrose was slipped through by Chris Hunt but Agele Luate equalised when he ran on to a long ball and lobbed the keeper to make it 1-1 at the break.
United went ahead 10 minutes after the restart when DZeffrey Bart crossed the ball directly into the net but Rangers won two penalties in 10 minutes with no doubts about the decisions.
Chris Hunt was brought down for the first penalty that was scored by Todd Hingston and Patty Lanau- Atkinson was fouled for the second, which Ambrose finished."

Round 6 Northern Tasmania - Preview

This week-end United will face Rangers at Birch Avenue.
Here is some comment of both coach from Walter Pless website.

“We should be unchanged again this week and have all of our senior squad available for the first time,” said Rangers coach, Adam Whitemore.
“There are question marks over Stefan Jago, who has a groin problem, and Issa Dumbuya, who has a problem with his thigh, but both will be keen to play, given the competition for places. Mark Ambrose will get his first start if Jago fails his fitness test. Launceston will be on a real high after their win in the State-wide Cup. We won't be underestimating them at all. We are top, but not yet in top gear. They are a young, developing side and Bart, Luate and Bartlett are just three of a number of very talented players. For us, it is all about our mental approach. If we play with the passing tempo I expect, and get pressure on the ball, they'll find it very difficult. The movement of our forwards should be a real test for them.”

“We’re looking forward to the challenge of facing the league champions this weekend and we have prepared and will go out and do our best,” said United coach, Mark Egan.

We hope to see all of you tomorrow afternoon.

The women team is playing against Launceston City Sunday afternoon (12:30 pm ?), and will need people to encourage them.
