Northern League Round 2

For the second week of the championship, United's teams were off to Devonport to play against the Strikers. As the Strikers won 2-1 against City last week it was a good chance for United to get a strong game and see if the team can fix some issues.

The Under 18's confirmed their good start by winning 2-0 in a pleasant game.

Despite their win last week the reserve jammed and loose 9-0 against a strong Striker reserve team.

The senior proposed an hard game to Devonport. The Strikers deserved their win but had to battle very hard. Nathan Bartlett and Thors Niemly scored for United. Even without the win their is good things to bring out from this game and the team will continue to work hard and prepare the next game against Riverside.

Thanks a lot to all the supporter who came to see us, it's really helpful and we hope to give you some happiness back soon.

Northern League Round 1

For the first game of the season United welcomed Ulverstone.

The day started very well by a convincing win by the Under 18's 1-0 thanks to a quick goal by Ash Towns.

The Reserve continued this good day by winning 3-1 with a wonderful hat-trick of Tommy MacQueen

After some good games and a convincing win against City during the Hudson Cup, the senior teams came with plenty of hope. But unfortunately the team felt down in its problems and loose 6-0

Under 18's Season Preview

The Under 18’s have had a solid preseason with varying results with majority of the players having been training since November last year things look bright for 2011.
The team are looking forward to backing up and building on their successful season last year finishing 3rd but only 4 points behind winners Burnie in a very close year. Last year the club was in pole position for a lot of the season with a long run of draws becoming our undoing midway through the season. Having lost key players Kieran Phillips and Tyler Bonde through groin and shoulder injuries respectively for the season the Under 18’s and a few younger players getting called up to the Senior ranks the team will have to utilise the young talent in the team.
Coach Richard Jones is coaching the team for his 2nd year in a row and is looking forward to the season ahead. We caught up with him for a few quick questions.

What are your predictions for this year:
RJ: Top four is a priority but like every other team we will be after the league title. I think it will be a close season this year same as last. Every game really counts which we learnt the hard way this year.

Do you believe this team can win the league:
Sure I do. I mean we can’t go in not thinking we can.

If so what would that require:
A consistent under 18’s squad, that will also be a big challenge for us, with so many of the young talented players being in and out of the seniors team and players stepping up due to injuries. If we can get that key core group of players I believe we can really excel.

Which clubs will make up the top four in your opinion?
I believe the top four will be made up of in no particular order Riverside, Northern Rangers, United and Burnie.

What do you believe will be the biggest test this year?
Well obviously the squad issues but the defining moment in the season will be our games against Prospect Knights, for some reason they had our measure on both occasions last year so personally I would like to win those games this year especially and I think if we do it will do wonders for our team.

Thank you Richard

Having had a taste for victory and being so close expect a tenacious and determined
under 18 team in 2011.

Sunday 13th March

This week-end, Launceston United teams (Reserve, Under 18's, Women) were in Prospect for three practice games against Knights' teams.

The Reserve teams lost the first game 4-0 with a better second half were Prospect scored only due to a wonderful own goal of Andrew Smith.

The Under 18's had a very pleasant games with plenty of nice team play. The match ended with a draw 2-2. Cameron Leonard and Simon Lucas on a nice free-kick scored for United.

The highlight of the day came from the women team which made an amazing come back from 0-2 at half-time to 4-2 finally. Well done girls. Jeni Jackson scored an incredible free-kick under the crossbar, the other goals were scored by Mel Griffiths, Eve Dougherty and Leila Shahtahmasebi

Steve Hudson Cup Week 4

Both the Seniors and Under 18's played against rival Launceston City, last weekend - the Under 18's for the semi-finals and Seniors for a play-off.

The Under 18's lost 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 on the regular time against Launceston City.

After a hard game the senior team had their first win since Hudson Cup 2009- winning 5-3.

City opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes, but Nathan Bartlett tied just after with an assist from Agele Luate. Agele then went on to score 4 goals himself in a brilliant display of team play ending the first half 4-1.

In the second half Agele scored another goal before City took a penalty and hit the back of the net from a free-kick.

The team is very happy and proud to win this game especially against Launceston City, and will play for 5th or 6th place in the 2011 Steve Hudson Cup against Northern Ranger next week at 11pm on Sunday.

The women team will play also in a practise match against the Under 15's FFT girls on Sunday.
